Circuit guide

Autodromo Nazionale Monza

Monza, Italy

Monza is the Temple of Speed, the fastest circuit of the year and one of the oldest venues still in use. It is essentially a set of long straights joined by chicanes, run inside a royal park outside Milan, and the atmosphere is unlike anywhere else.

What the lap demands

Teams run their lowest-downforce configuration of the season here, which makes the cars fast in a straight line and unstable everywhere else. Braking into the chicanes from very high speed is the defining challenge, and riding the kerbs cleanly is worth real time.

How the racing unfolds

Slipstreaming is a genuine tactical factor, both in qualifying and in the race, and the braking zones at the first two chicanes produce plenty of passes. Cars can run in packs here in a way they cannot at most circuits.

Picking a Top 5 here

Engine performance matters more than usual, which can lift teams that struggle elsewhere. The order is fairly fluid and the slipstream introduces genuine randomness into qualifying, so do not over-trust the grid. A good weekend to consider a driver from a team with a strong power unit.
